A movie night can be a fairly quiet transaction: find a seat, watch the screen, head home. The Rocky Horror Picture Show offers a different proposition. Its Charlotte stop pairs the film with live performers and an audience invited to participate, making the room part of the entertainment.
The Spooktacular Tour arrives at Carolina Theatre on Saturday, October 17, with an 8 p.m. start. Barry Bostwick, who played Brad Majors in the film, is the featured original cast member for the Charlotte event.
What’s planned for the evening
According to the theatre’s event listing, the program includes a new 4K restoration of the movie, a live shadow cast, audience participation, a costume contest and a display of movie memorabilia. A shadow cast performs alongside a screening; this is a film-centered event with live elements, rather than a conventional staging of the musical.
That distinction helps set expectations. You’re going for the interplay between screen, performers and fellow fans. A costume can become part of the evening, but first-time visitors can also come ready to watch and learn the rhythm of the room.
Plan before you dress up
The tour producer identifies the movie as rated R. Anyone arranging a group outing should check the venue’s admission requirements and consider the film’s content before purchasing.
Before bringing props or planning an elaborate costume, consult the theatre directly about permitted items. Participation traditions vary, and a familiar practice at another screening should not be treated as permission at this one.
The venue lists a separate VIP meet-and-greet option. Check the package details and arrival instructions if you choose it; the main screening’s start time should not be used as your VIP arrival time.
